If you are planning a visit from a long distance, especially overseas, please contact us before booking your travel tickets so that we can advise you of the best times to come.

North Devon is a popular holiday destination, so accommodation may be harder to find (and more expensive) during school holidays.

The Freedom Centre

By road:

SatNav: enter our postcode: EX32 8QA

The Freedom Centre is situated on the eastern outskirts of Barnstaple.
Download or view directions here.

By rail:

There is a railway station in Barnstaple, about 10 minutes’ walk from the town centre (about 25 minutes’ walk from the Freedom Centre).

If coming from London, the fastest trains depart from Paddington station. There are also trains to Exeter from London Waterloo, but these are MUCH slower. In either case you will need to change trains at Exeter St. Davids for the trip along the picturesque Tarka Line branch to Barnstaple.

Note: during the summer, the first train from Exeter to Barnstaple on a Sunday does now arrive in time for our Sunday meeting, if there is one! This may well change with the winter timetable.

On arrival at Barnstaple you will probably wish to take a bus or taxi to your accommodation or to the Freedom Centre.

Note: You may wish to take the train to Tiverton Parkway and travel the 37 miles from there to Barnstaple by taxi. It is advisable to book the taxi in advance. This will normally be faster than changing trains at Exeter St. David’s but may be more expensive.

Taxis and car hire:

In Barnstaple, there is a taxi rank at the railway station, and another in the main shopping area just off the Square, outside Lilico’s Tapas Lounge and Bar.

If you wish to book a taxi in advance, you will find details of Barnstaple Taxis and phone numbers here.

There are a number of local and national car hire companies in the town.

By bus or coach:

The local bus and National Express coach station is in the centre of Barnstaple, 15 minutes’ walk from the Freedom Centre.
